Our 2013 family vacation to special places in Arizona, Colorado, and Utah was great fun. Our adventures found us at Sedona’s Chapel of the Holy Cross, as well as Jerome, Arizona, once the site of a copper mining camp that was known as the wickedest town in the west. Our itinerary also included time spent in awe inspiring National Parks like the Grand Canyon, Zion, and Mesa Verde. I was impressed by the unique natural diversity of this region. Far from barren, these deserts and canyons are alive with plants and animals, as well as amazing historic and pre-historic sites. My Stone Garden Series commemorates this trip and incorporates lichen-covered rocks nestled in a sandy base surrounded by adaptions of desert plants and, of course, the essential honey bees.
